Olympians (photo-gallery)
[Bombers 0 -Olympians 58] May 30, 2010
In the previous
meeting between the two sides, the Bombers fought hard and prevented
the Olympians from finishing the game with a shutout. This time it
was different and with the exception of a spell of four minutes in
the fourth quarter when there was a trading of possession the Olympians
kept their scoring machine efficient.
The Bombers received the kick-off from their own 20-yard line and
were promptly dispatched for a series of three and out. The Olympians
subsequent drive took only one play to score their first TD of the
game when QB Bishop Adkins connected with wide receiver Daniel
Jeanton 22 yards out, the PAT was converted by kicker Chris
Davies (0-7). On the kick-off return, the Bombers managed to get
to their 40-yard line but pressure from the Olympians defense led
to a bad snap that resulted in a safety, (0-9). Having forced the
Olympians offence to a non-productive drive the Bombers mustered a
drive that gave them a first down but they were soon after forced
to punt.
In the second quarter with good field position from the punt return
the Olympians running back Toyin Omodara rushed for 25 yards
after wide receiver Chris Davies continued his form catching
with 5 yard reception. Fullback Alex "Doc" Gabriel
obliged to complete the drive with a 6 yard rushing TD however, the
PAT was no good, (0-15). On the next drive by the Bombers only progressively
advanced the ball forward from a 10-yard penalty on their QB, as a
timely sack by Olympians DB Taiwo Bello halted progress. From
this point, Olympians not only took over but scored a TD with a pass
from Adkins to wide receiver Kenny Bello and kicker Davies
kicked a good PAT, (0-22). The Bombers were not managing to get a
sustained drive together and so the pattern continued. An 80-yard
punt return from returner Seun Shobande, after a deep punt
from the Bombers set up running back Adrian John to rush for
16 and 6 yards for a TD, PAT by Davies (0-29). Olympians receivers
Jeanton and Karim El-Sayed to 4 and 8-yard catches respectively
in a bid to get another drive going but halftime arrived sooner.
After receiving the kick-off to start the third quarter, the Olympians
drive consistency was back on and running backs Forrester Osei,
Adrian John and Gabriel rushed for 36, 6 and 11-yards before Adrian
scored his second TD. The PAT was no good and as such left the score
0-35. At this point it was not likely the game would be lost but for
the Olympians defence it was imperative that they kept their shutout
intent intact. For the remainder of the game the Bombers only managed
one more first down drive and a fumble recovery, which showed their
tenacity and desire. Receiver Daryn Stillwell completed a double
of scoring with TD reception pass and 2-point PAT to increase the
Olympians score to 0-43. Linebacker Michael Omeru for the second
time this season scored a TD after recovering a blocked field goal
attempt by the Bombers, PAT was no good by Davies (0-49). DB Adeodatus
Ronie Twumasi heralded the end of the third quarter with an almighty
sack on the Bombers QB.
Olympians took momentum from this sack and running back, Osei immediately
rushed for 15 yards. A subsequent turnover gave the ball back to the
Bombers but at this point it turned into an intense battle between
both defences with three turnovers a piece. However, the Olympians
defence came up trumps with an eventual safety, (0-51). In their next
possession, Olympians running back Seun Shobande rushed a combined
46 yards and receiver Kenny Bello completed the drive with a reception
that required complete concentration after it was tipped away from
his route by a Bombers DB. With a converted PAT in ended the scoring
at 0-58 to the Olympians who are now "Five and O".
